ABOUT

I am a recent graduate of Clemson University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Legal Studies. I also have an emphasis in Spanish.

Through my education, work experience and personal interests, I have learned a lot about the principles of liberty and equality. Throughout our nation’s history, many have acted as if the two are mutually exclusive; I believe, however, that they are dependent upon each other. We cannot have complete liberty without complete equality. Public education is one of the greatest examples of systematic inequality in America, which is why next fall I will be teaching secondary special education English in South Louisiana as a corps member of Teach for America. While I'm unsure where my life and career will take me after my commitment to TFA, I know that I will continue to stand with the most vulnerable members of our society and to fight for liberty and equality for all.

To date I have worked in office settings and in the service industry, both of which have taught me the importance of customer service and maintaining client relations. I have also spent time as a leader in classroom settings, learning to maintain safe and accessible environments for the educational experience of students in public education. Through my work experience I have grown comfortable with professional communication, creative problem-solving, and a good work ethic.

I also enjoy reading and writing poetry and essays, and I am pursuing the possibility of publishing some of my work.

"The generations that wrote and ratified the Bill of Rights and the Fourteenth Amendment did not presume to know the extent of freedom in all of its dimensions, and so they entrusted to future generations a charter protecting the right of all persons to enjoy liberty as we learn its meaning."

- Justice Anthony Kennedy speaking for the majority,

Obergefell v. Hodges, 2015

"Our almost-instinct almost true:

What will survive of us is love."

- Phillip Larkin, An Arundel Tomb
